Spectacular dance routines and amazing songs combine into one for the 2017 revival of 42nd Street. The show opens in 1933 during auditions for a brand new musical, Pretty Lady. The spectacular opening sets the tone for the rest of the evening as each routine, choreographed by Randy Skinners is effortlessly pulled off by an energetic ensemble of strong dancers. Dorothy Brock, the formidable lead actress of Pretty Lady was played at this performance by Cj Johnson who gave a wonderful performance as a character who is the classic Broadway diva but also someone who cares deeply for others. This character is also a fantastic way for Johnson to showcase her incredible vocal ability which she achieves effortlessly throughout. Along with Johnson there are many stand out performances including Graeme Henderson who played the role of the notorious Broadway director, Julian Marsh. Henderson portrayed Marsh as a very focussed individual who doesn’t let anything stand in his way. Again Henderson’s vocal ability is showcased spectacularly in such numbers like Lullaby of Broadway and the title song, 42nd Street. Whether it’s your first West End show or your 100th 42nd Street is a must see for any theatre fan. This revival has something for everyone and is definitely not to be missed. Playing at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane
